The complete short stories: vol 3

Buchan, John, 1875-19401997
Books, Manuscripts
This third volume covers the period from just before the outbreak of the First World War to Buchan's death in 1940. At the outbreak of the war Buchan had tried to enlist, but was rejected on grounds of age and health. Instead, he became a war correspondent, one of only five journalists to be attached to the British Army on the Western Front, and the shadow of war hangs over several of the stories as the returning soldiers attempt to come to terms with civilian life.
