Alloa Tower and the Erskines of Mar

Books, Manuscripts
Alloa Tower is the oldest building in Alloa. It is one of the largest tower houses in Scotland and is of national importance, because of the seventeenth century alterations and the survival of the mediaeval root. After their arrival in Alloa around 1 360, the Erskine family set about establishing a fortified home. The craftsmanship, design and materials used have been combined in a magnificent structure that not only survives today but also looks forward to serving the community as a special venue and as a visitor centre.
